Our colleague Tarek Watfa, a researcher in public law, participated as part of the facilitation team at the Syrian Dialogue Conference held in Damascus on February 25, 2025. He contributed to facilitating discussions on constitutional construction during the transitional phase. Despite some challenges surrounding the organization of the conference—particularly those related to the invitation mechanism, representation, and the resulting outcomes that require extensive discussions—the conference represented a genuine opportunity for a Syrian-Syrian dialogue to take place for the first time, from within the halls of the Republican Palace.
From our perspective, we hope that this conference serves as a foundational platform for launching a series of long-term dialogues aimed at reaching consensus on the path to democratic transition and fulfilling the aspirations of various segments of the Syrian people, ensuring the establishment of a sustainable peace.
In this context, ParadigmMENA, as part of its research series on the transitional phase, intends to release a set of research papers addressing key issues and challenges related to constitutional construction in Syria, fostering academic discussions and support efforts to lay the groundwork for a more stable political phase.
