Paradigm MENA
is an independent research institution focused on governance and sustainable development studies in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, with a particular emphasis on the Syrian context. The institution aims to advance scientific knowledge in social, political, economic, and environmental issues to support sustainable development efforts in the region.
Founded in September 2024 through an initiative by a group of young Syrian researchers and academics—both inside Syria and in the diaspora—Paradigm MENA is driven by the conviction that rigorous, evidence-based knowledge should inform policymaking, decision-making, and the design of effective development interventions for official and non-official institutions. Additionally, Paradigm provides technical and academic consultancy across various development sectors.
The institution seeks to elevate the standards of scientific research by enhancing the research tools and capabilities of individuals and organizations, empowering them in the fields of governance, sustainable development, and the design, implementation, and impact assessment of development projects.
In its work, Paradigm adopts a participatory and dialogue-based approach, upholding democracy as a core value in public administration, policy formulation, and the realization of societies’ aspirations for good governance and sustainable development.
Vision
Guided by a holistic developmental vision for MENA societies, Paradigm envisions cultivating a new generation of researchers—men and women alike—who can strengthen the research culture within formal and informal institutions. This aims to foster policies rooted in a deep understanding of local contexts, regional complexities, and the cultural and resource needs of the region.
